A light bulb, contains a special wire that glows bright when a large electric current passes through it. Voltages above the bulb’s rating can burn out the wire. The lamp sockets had a seperate bulb to screw in for the first few sets, and was changed to an internal bulb in a plastic covering in 2007, currently, L3 doesn't exist yet.
